An effective, some what pricey but convenient RO system that is well worth the cost.
(Old Review; scroll down to updated 1/13/2021):
Love the taste, so many advantages as others have said. The life of the filter, not so much though so far. Live in Manhattan (NYC) where TDS in around 225, TDS out after 30 seconds anywhere between 4-7 which is remarkable. Purchased the Waterdrop Tankless 600GPD on Jan 27, 2021 and having used it daily for 90 days, making about 2-3 gallons per day for two people, plants and humidifiers. The "life of the filter" indicator light has 6 levels, and now it's down to level 1, indicating the life of the filter is almost over? Not sure if there is an error or problem, but I don't think TDS 225 or NYC water is that dirty. Will contact Waterdrop to confirm. But their estimates were 1 year or 1000 gallons which ever comes first. I'm estimating that we've made 250 gallons so far. While the product's water taste is phenomenal, the annual cost, plus as the filter becomes less efficient more quickly over time producing more waste water and the annual 'filter goes into landfill' waste becomes concerning O_o.
Will contact Waterdrop and see what they have to say, will update this review.
Updated 1/13/2021: I increased the rating to 5 stars. Why? Well, Waterdrop did get back to me, and gave me a 2nd filter to try. Over the spring, summer, and fall, our use was much less (not feeding the humidifiers) and the filter is down to 3 out of 6 bars. Since the most likely use case for 2 people is probably not to feed humidifiers, I think that about a year or 10-12 months use depending on rate of use is about right. If you feed humidifiers (in total this makes the filter pass probably 2-3x as much water as is used by two people drinking alone in the same time period), expect to pay a lot more. TDS drops from low 200's to low teens after 20-30 seconds and single digits after running the filter for a minute or more and the RO water tastes so clean (not muddy as per my neighbors complaint). We use it for coffee and the soda stream (adding back CO2, is it clean I wonder?). Have there been any malfunctions? Only once early in the use of the filter I had some water leaking around the base, not sure where it was coming from. I just retightened the fittings/couplings and it never leaked again, aside from a little water when I replaced the filter. It wouldn't hurt to get a tray for the unit.
I'll estimate that filter replacements of $100 annually for two people using it for personal drinking and occasional cooking is about right. Our use case, we water plants, and fill TWO humidfiers in the north east winters, so will replace the $100 filter twice annually at least. You know what? It's totally worth it. I won't hesitate to install one of these at home again. Enjoying drinking fresh clean water, cooking with it, making coffee and tea with it, and having clean humidifiers without calcification has transformed life.
Not paid promotion, I bought this unit off Amz. Hopefully this review continues to help people. This system is great, and I won't hesitate to continue support the company and its products.
