23 years down the road and I have never found a writing instrument I like better until this baby
I've been using the regular Pilot V5s since the 3rd grade--argued with every single teacher I had through to the 12th because I refused to trade them in for a #2 pencil, even when I had to bubble in ScanTron forms (I don't know about other ink pens, but the machines all seemed to read my answers fine). 23 years down the road and I have never found a writing instrument I like better until this baby. I write/sketch a LOT. My local Sam's Club used to sell the regular v5's and I would go through an entire box within a few months. They stopped carrying them for some bizarre reason and I stupidly decided to take the opportunity, stray and try to find a "better" pen. I don't know why I did that because I have been quietly stressing out this past year, trying everything from the Zebra 301, Le Pen, the Sharpie pens, Triplus Fineliners, Uniball Signo, Schneider, the Japanese Sarasa's... the list goes on and on... and hating my life/myself in the process. Finally, I gave up and decided to order a crapton of v5's from Amazon. I had no idea that Pilot had come out with a retractable version so I decided to give it a whirl, and oh my sweet baby Jesus, this pen is a game changer. I still prefer the weight/thickness of the original v5s, and I do wish the metal clip didn't extend down as much, but the grip is more comfortable AND the retractable feature more than makes up for it (no more lost pen caps, yay!). The ink flow is the same, consistent and smooth. Just like the original, the retractable v5s produce sharp, precise lines without a lot of pressure which is great because I have some mild carpal tunnel that flares up from time to time. Bottom line, buy these pens.
