Comfortable and Especially Good Value
First of all, there is a lot of personal preference regarding firmness and comfort of mattresses. This mattress is slightly firm and makes a quite comfortable bed on which to sleep. The foam gives it some surface softness and the slight firmness seems to come from down below the foam. I would have absolutely no difficulty going to sleep on this mattress.
My rating is based on the price. If you compare this mattress to a $600 after discount mattress, I would give it maybe 3.5 to 4 stars. I have tried some very expensive mattresses that were awful in my opinion. This mattress will support your body quite well, but still has enough softness in the surface to be reasonably comfortable. We are using this full size mattress in a guest bedroom. There was a slight odor when I first cut an opening in the plastic bag, but now that it has been outgassing for over 10 hours, an odor is noticeable in the bedroom. It's not bad, but I will air out the room by opening the windows a few hours for a couple of days. After that, I think it will be fine. It's completely expected considering it has been sealed in a plastic bag since it was manufactured.
The instructions say to give the mattress two or three days to fully decompress, so I will check it again in a few days to see if it expands any thicker. After three hours, it is currently exactly nine inches thick. My conventional mattress is 11 inches thick for comparison. It is amazing this mattress can be rolled up so tightly. So it comes as no surprise it might take two or three days to fully decompress. This mattress is a little wider and longer than the new mattress that we bought a few months ago for a considerably higher price, especially considering delivery charges. This mattress being reviewed actually fits the bed frame much better – noticeably smaller gaps along both sides and even the foot and head of the bed. There are expensive name brand mattresses that shave off the width and length dimensions by two to three inches to save a few extra dollars. I own two overpriced mattresses like this – big gaps at the headboard and sides. So I’m glad to see this mattress is very likely full width and length.
Our previous mattress is noticeably thicker by a couple of inches. We were concerned if a fitted sheet would fit properly. As it turns out the fitted sheet fits almost as well as it did on the thicker mattress we already owned. The extra width and length mostly made up for some of the thinness of this new mattress. The main thing I could wish for is a thicker mattress so the fitted sheet fits better, even if the thickness consists of empty space.
This mattress arrived via Federal Express in a 12 X 12 X 58 inch long rectangular cardboard box. It was relatively heavy to lift, but my petite wife and I were able to carry it upstairs together – a bit tiring, but we made it. She held one end of the box and I pulled the compressed mattress out of the box. I carefully cut the plastic wrap with scissors starting in the middle and heard a hissing sound of air entering the mattress bag for a fraction of a second. It was fairly easy to pull the thick plastic bag off the mattress. The mattress was upside down after removing the plastic, so we had to flip it. The mattress had a bit of initial convex curvature at first, which was to be expected. While it might be possible for a strong person to handle this mattress, you should plan on it being a two adult person job.
About the handprint photo, there’s no way to leave a handprint impression on the mattress. Maybe there’s an internal foam layer that you can see the handprint, but certainly not on the outer surface of the mattress.
