Well designed but could be much better
This is my favorite pet fountain design to date. Here’s the breakdown: The good: The water basin and pump disconnect from the base allowing you to fill it without dragging the cord around. The basin holds a considerable two liters of water and because it’s covered, there’s significantly less evaporation than other designs. The primary filter is big and features more than just carbon. The secondary filter fits around the pump inlet to protect it from hair. Unlike other brands, it shuts down if low, preventing the pump from running dry. It also automatically cycles the water to keep it fresh. It’s very quiet. The bad: It’s made entirely out of plastic so it’s not dishwasher safe. That’s a real big bummer because I like sterilizing my cat’s water dish and food bowl occasionally, instead of just scrubbing them. This could easily be fixed by releasing a stainless steel basin, stem, and filter cover. The smart mode is supposed to reduce flow at night (I guess?). This doesn’t really seem all that smart to me. I wish they would have used the IR sensor to identify when a pet is near, and turn on the water then. The filters are supposed to be replaced monthly for regular mode which is pretty frequent. The water level gauge is difficult to see without bright lighting. The instructions are really poorly done. I had to watch their YouTube videos after reading the printed material to figure out how to put it together, take care of it, and what the modes actually do. All in all it’s a great fountain compared to the competition but I can’t help but think the bar for pet products is really low. This product would be considerably better if petkit chose better materials (stainless steel). It’s still the easiest to use that I’ve found.
