Excellent book for any beginner, intermediate player, or someone getting back into chess after a long time of not playing.
Many years ago, I was quite a good chess player but I stopped playing when other things dominated my time. Recently, I showed my 12 year-old granddaughter how to play chess and she seemed to take to it naturally so I found my old copy of this book at gave it to her because I remember that it is a good primer for any new player. But realizing that if I was to play chess with her, I better sharpen up my rusty chess skills so I ordered a replacement copy for myself. I just started going through it and I was reminded of what a good book this is. Keep in mind, this is not an advanced chess book by any stretch of the imagination. It doesn't analyze the great games of the past or dig into the classic strategies. What it is, though, is an exercise to sharpen your chess skills. When playing with my granddaughter, I found myself making a few glaring blunders which is something I almost never did in the past so this book should help me work the kinks out of my playing. Unfortunately, I don't have the intense feelings I had years ago when I could see many moves ahead and the game was alive for me. After all those years, I find myself just using tactical combinations but no real strategy. But that may change if I start playing again and this book is an excellent way to brush the cobwebs away. I highly recommend this book to any new or intermediate player or to someone like myself who's getting back in game after a long time.
