I have been using this type of clothes line for years. When we moved I told my husband I had to get another one for this house. The last about 3-5 yrs. depending on the sun they get; after many years in the sun they do finally get brittle. With that being said, they only thing that gets brittle is the little prong you rap the line around to hold it snug. the casing has never given my any trouble not the line itself. If your thinking about it, just do it!! You won't be sorry.
