While my daughter held the chicken I put 10 staples in and she barely moved. I practice on some pork hocks I bought at the supermarket and I would recommend practicing before you actually use this. Take a piece of meat with skin and slice it and then use the tool on the slice. 4 or 5 stables should be enough practice. You need press the wound together and press the head of the tool in firmly and do a quick click. The removal tool works well on my pork hock and we will have that for dinner in some pasta sauce later this week.
