Excellent product; slightly more taste than the non-kosher variety.
After having run through a container of the porcine gelatin from Great Lakes, I decided to give the beef version a try. I am extremely pleased with it as well. The only difference between the beef and porcine versions that I could detect was that I can taste the beef version slightly when I add it to my coffee. With the porcine gelatin I can't really tell it's there. I first decided to try gelatin as a supplement because I'd heard it helps you sleep better. I started with a few boxes of Knox Unflavored gelatin from the grocery store, and although I didn't sleep any better, my joint pain improved remarkably! After reading other reviews of this product, I ordered a container of the porcine gelatin and gave it a try. I put a tablespoon in the bottom of my (large) coffee mug, poured in the coffee and all the fixin's, and stirred it well. The product dissolved easily and was virtually undetectable in the coffee. Since I started taking gelatin I find that I am bounding out of the bed the way I did when I was in my 30's, instead of crawling out and supporting my weight with my hands on my knees until I can straighten my back and get my legs in gear. This product dissolves better than the Knox did and I find the container easy to use and measure from. I am so pleased with the results that I have been making gelatin doggie treats for my senior Jack Russells. I heat a cup and a half of chicken broth (reduced sodium) in the microwave and stir in 4 teaspoons of gelatin. When the mixture cools a little I pour it into a plastic ice cube tray and stick it in the fridge. Each morning and evening I split one of the cubes and gave half to each little monster, and they gobble it up. Before that I was stirring a half-teaspoon into a quarter cup room-temperature chicken broth and letting them drink it, and they gobbled that up too. And now, darned if they don't seem to be moving a little better also. (What am I thinking!?? It took fourteen years for them to slow down, and here I go starting them up again. Sigh.) In short, I find that both the porcine and beef versions of this product are easy to use. They both dissolve easily, and I can definitely tell when I've skipped it for a day or two. I'll be ordering the porcine version in the future only because I can slightly taste the beef in my coffee, but let's be clear: I am putting a TABLESPOON of gelatin into a CUP of coffee. I find it amazing that the taste is so slight, and even more amazing that the porcine version has almost no taste at all. I'll continue with the beef if the porcine version becomes unavailable or a price difference develops.
