The door is the best quality you'll get for the money. I bought one at Home Depot and it was nowhere near this one. Similar price too. I hate that it takes up so much of the entry way. So our door opening was 30" wide. But, with the pet door, we have about 17 1/2". So, it does narrow quite a bit. If you plan on bringing chairs out to the patio, or if there are larger people in your family...this may not be the best option. The doorway narrows quite a bit. In my installation, the door sits in the track. I secured it using 4 supplied screws that went through the existing track on the slider patio. The existing door lock had to be removed so the door would sit flush against the left side of the wall. The lock on the existing door doesn't work with the pet door, so they supply a lock you can install. It's a small lock, but it's better than nothing. I put a few pieces of wood behind the door as extra security. The weather stripping supplied was sufficient. The trick was getting the existing door and pet door FLUSH before mounting it to the frame. The supplied lock is THIN and doesn't have much play. If it's crooked, it's not going to be easy to lock. So, take your time squaring up the pet door and existing slider. Then, when you're sure the lock will be good, you can secure the door to the patio door frame. I'm happy with it, and after buying several, this one beats out all others. Heavy duty, insulated, quality materials.
