Life saver
My cat had never had any urinary issues and he is a special needs cat with multiple disease states and 2 autoimmune diseases. He has been through grueling surgeries, has had feeding tubes, went from 18 pounds to 7 pounds and after 3+ years is finally pain and medicine free for the past 6 months. Out of the blue, I noticed something on my floor one day and it looked like dark jam. I bent down to smell it and it didn't smell like jam or poop, so I touched it and it was so sticky and thick. I have 1 other special needs cat and a normal cat too, so I had no idea what or who it came from. I'm used to blood because of their other surgeries and wound management, but this wasn't that kind of blood. This was that dark, thick, sticky blood that comes from organs. So I checked them all from ears, eyes, nose, mouth, paws, genital and anal area. Nothing. All clean and all acting normal. So, I moved my little spy cam (purchased on Amazon.com) to where the crime scene had taken place and gave them each 1 dose of an antibiotic just because I didnt know which one was bleeding and could not take all three cats to the Er at 10pm. So in the morning, I watched the video and saw which cat it was and rushed him to our fabulous vet and it turned out, he had kidney stones, an almost ruptured bladder, interstitial cystitis and an infection. I felt like such a loser that all this happened and I had no clue especially since I've been monitoring the 2 special needs cats daily for so many other things. Apparently, cats hide uti symptoms well until it's too late. So he was given an injection and I was given meds to give him for a while. This poor cat has been through soo many surgeries and different prescription foods that he hated, I was not going to force syringe feed him some expensive urinary health rx food he'd just puke up. So I came to Amazon and did my research about the type of diet needed to sustain urinary tract health. I am NOT a big fan of science diet, but it got great reviews and I resseached it a bit and it has the right amounts of water, protein, magnesium and phosphorus. I figured because it was a "specialty" food, my guy wouldn't eat it like he's done in the past, we'll, I was wrong. He loves it! I mean, lick the bowl clean and meow for more. That's nuts. So, even though he is still caged at the moment so I can collect urine samples, he is quite content with his fancy & healthy food. Thank you science diet. You made a believer out of me!
