Great Food for Kidney Issues
My 14 year old Lab had slightly elevated kidney levels, and the vet wanted to put him on a prescription diet and re-test his kidneys in 3 months. I decided to try Dr. Harvey's intead. After 3 months of being on this food, we re-tested his kidney levels, and his BUN and creatinine levels were lower. The vet was very happy and suprised that the levels lowered as much as they did in just 3 months. The mix is easy to prepare by just adding hot water, and you can prepare the mix and refrigerate it for up to 3 or 4 days. I usually batch cook 4 meals (2 days worth) at a time, putting the hydrated mix and protein in individual containers. The only reason I give this 4 stars is because it does take some planning, especially if you need to cook the meat, thaw it from the freezer, etc. On another note, the company is wonderful. I initially ordered a sample directly from the company, and they included a handwritten card thanking me for my purchase. In addition, about 2 weeks into using the food, my dog had a couple of days of diarrhea, and I was concerned it was something with the food. I emailed the company, and they responded promptly, suggesting that I call and speak with Dr. Harvey. I called, and he wasn't in the office yet, but the person took my number and said he'd call me when he got in. I didn't have high expectations that I would get a call, and then he called me and spoke with me for about 15 minutes. He told me to cut up a 1/2 of an apple into tiny bits and let it brown. The pectin the browning produces is a binding agent. I put that in the dog's food, and guess what? It worked! I can't say enough about the wonderful custome service and about the company itself.
