I chose this deep fryer,because of user ratings, size, price, and the manufacturer. I have always been impressed and satisfied with T-fal products. My previous deep fryer was a T-fal, and after 10 years, it finally gave up the ghost. I immediately started looking for a replacement, and although I looked at several brands, this fryer had everything I needed. The good price and the fact that it was a T-fal product clinched the sale. It heats up surprisingly fast; cooks right on time (cooks perfectly at the recommended time). The basket handle does stick out from the top, but it stays cool, and has hooks on the back, to hold the basket out of the oil, and easily lowers or raises, to or from the oil. I leave it down in the oil while heating; then raise it and use the hooks on the back to hold it in position above the oil, when I add the french fries, or whatever frozen or solid food I will be frying. then I lower the basket into the oil, put the lid on, and start cooking. The timer goes off at the recomended time I set it for, and the food is done to perfection. The heatingcontrol box, on the back slides out of it's slot, for easier handling, when necessary, and when you need to clean the fryer or change the oil, you just pour it out of the fryer compartment. I wipe it down with a couple of paper towels, to keep the oil out of the drains, and then just clean it with a sponge and soapy water. It cleans easily. I wipe it dry with a dish towel, and I'm good to go. It is recommended that you change the oil after every 10 uses or so, and the above design makes it easy and facilitates the change. The legs are steady, and are very stable and virtually non-slip, although you can push it or lift it, easily enough. All in all, I think this deep fryer is a whiz and a gem. I am very satisfied with it.
