Started out years ago with the Pitbull Skullshaver. Worked pretty well but died early and I was not impressed with the company’s response. Tried several foil shavers and settled on the Panasonic Arc 5 which gives an incredibly close head shave. However, the shape is obviously not ideal fur head shaving and for that reason takes a fairly long time (8-10 minutes). So, I’ve been looking for something that was better designed for skull shaving. The oddly named AidallsWellup caught my attention. It appears that they have improved their product over its first iterations, resulting in the 7D version I purchased. I was initially put off by the inclusion of a number of grooming aides which I’d never use, but decided to focus on the razor itself and it’s many great reviews. Receiving the unit I thought it strange that the odd name appears nowhere on the package or the razor itself. OK - a little peculiar, but … It arrived fully charged and with a readout that shows the approximate number of minutes left. The instructions for lifting the 7 heads is not helpful, but I found a video that solved that. The shaver is very comfortable to hold and its overall cup shape and flexible heads makes it exceptionally comfortable on the scalp. It’s hard to assess closeness - the longer you spend the closer it gets. But my approach has been to spend about 3-4 minutes and get a decent look, but then do this every day, unlike the Panasonic which I used every three days. So far, so good. It’s a nice balance between ease of use and an acceptable closeness. Also, works fine on neck hairs - no pinching. The real issue will be how well it holds up. I have no problem with the $20 replacement head unit, which certainly bears the $60 to replace the Panasonic blade/foil assembly. The guarantee plus a followup letter from the manufacturer gives some room for optimism. But, if its motor does fail prematurely, it will again raise the issue of why no one has chosen to take this very attractive design and manufacture it with more robust components. But, at this point I’m delighted with it and cautiously optimistic.
