I live in a small NY apt. and the machine was a little larger than expected, but not overly so. It fits out of the way when not in use and works just fine on a coffee table. It is much more durable than a "portable" or "mini" machine, which is great as my 13 year-old will be using it too, and has plenty of stitch options for our use. There is a "how to" video, but I wanted to get to a project ASAP, so just skimmed the included manual and it was similar enough to other machines I've owned that getting started was quick and easy. I purchased a sewing kit that included thread and a magnifying glass in order to thread the dreaded needle with my almost 50 eyes. After I finished my first project, I read further and discovered that there is a "needle threader" attached and ready to go...LIFE CHANGER!!! We have already completed 3 projects in less than a week and I owe it to this nifty little gadget that somehow escaped me when I purchased it. Not sure if this would be suitable for a full time sewer or quilter, but for us DIY crafters, it is THE BOMB!!
