Great Cameras!!
I live out in the country and powered cameras were not suitable. Chose Reolink after much research about use on large property. I ran Cat6 wire in some underground access tubes to the farthest locations (approximately 150 feet). Honestly the most difficult part was terminating the Cat6 wire - what a pain. Once I had the cameras in place they came on line instantly. Super easy. I added two additional wired cameras and two wifi cameras to bring the total to 8. The wifi cameras work well but I've placed them at about their max so occasionally lose feed.
Next, I have the cameras recording 24/7 and found that the weekly overwrite on the NVR (due to space limitations) was too quick for my needs. that's when things became a bit tricky. The documentation included with the cameras could use more detail. I'm not a real tech person so I found out the hard way that not just any external hard drive works with the NVR. I had to read a ton of online conversations to understand that the external drive should be a) No larger than 4TB b) a DRV/NVR suitable drive. I was so frustrated after returning one drive, buying a second eSATA cable thinking that was my problem. I finally sent off a may day to the Reolink folks and much to my surprise they stuck with me until we found a solution. Ultimately they had me open up the box (again, I'm not a tech person but bravely took on the challenge) and send them photos of the connections inside the box. Once they determined that all was well, they had me unplug the existing Toshiba drive and plug the eSATA cable directly in to my external (Fantom) HD. At first nothing but then I initialized the Fantom and the NVR found it. Next I plugged the Toshiba back in, added the Fantom via the external eSATA port and both showed up.
While Reolink has a ways to go in terms of documentation, I was extremely impressed with their eagerness to help me find a solution. I hope they use my experience to add to their User Manual. It could certainly help others avoid some frustration.
