Moto E
Update 7/28/16 This phone now doesn't have enough internal storage because the updates of preinstalled apps has taken it. You MUST disable some of the preinstalled apps AND uninstall their updates to regain some valuable internal storage. To do this go to Settings>Apps and touch the apps you don't use. Clear the Data first then disable the app and uninstall updates. This phone requires at least 300 mb of free internal storage to update apps and to work properly. Get a micro SD card to put music, photos and apps that you install on. To do this go to Settings>Apps and On SD Card and put a check mark in the ones that you want to move. ------- First off i really like the Moto E. It stands head and shoulders over the first wave of Tracfone offerings. It only took Tracfone a year to start offering some decent phones. Now i know how bad the ZTE Valet that i used for over a year really was. Though at the time i considered it ok and i guess it was. It was painfully slow at running some apps like the yahoo mail app in particular. A few apps would crash because of the lack of processing power. (I had two weather apps running which showed the temperature in the notification area and that was about all the ZTE valet could handle.) The Moto E is quite fast and runs android 4.4.4. (1.2 Ghz dual core processor and 1 gig of RAM.) I tend to use one app at a time rather than multitask and there is no lag what so ever. I think it could probably handle several apps running at once as well. When i first connected to my router and signed into my Google account it proceeded to install all the Google Play apps that i had on my previous phone automatically as well as my contacts. The speed in which it performed this was amazing. It left out a couple of apps which i later installed but got most of them about 20. I also installed 11 apps from Amazon App Store whose names were stored in the cloud under my account. Five of the largest apps i moved to the micro SD card and still had half of the internal storage available (2.21 gb of internal storage available to user total initially). The camera is 5 MP and is fixed focus only. This was the only slight disappointment of this phone. I was expecting an auto focus camera. I've taken a few photos in good light and they are sharp and clear with great natural color. The phone by default stores photos in internal memory and you can move them to the SD card by going to Settings->Storage->Move Media. When the camera is open swipe right to show the camera settings and one of them makes the camera store the photos directly onto the micro SD card. The camera has HDR setting which allows greater detail in light or dark areas of the photo. The more photos i take the more impressed i am with color balance and clarity. 9/23/15 The camera now has an exposure control so it may be able to photo checks for deposit with banking app. Open the camera and swipe to the right to access settings. The second from the top (the hand touching inside a square) touch to turn it on. The screen is crisp and clear (960x540 resolution) and at 4.3 inches is a very comfortable size. I find 5.1 inch screens a little too large for putting in your front pants pocket. The speaker i found a little tinny and with too much treble at first but there is a built in equalizer (Settings->Sound->Audio Effects) which i set to Extreme Bass and it seems to help or possibly i've adjusted to the sound. The speaker is on the front which i like. The Power Control widget placed on one of your home screens makes it easy to control what features are turned on or off though it lacks the Data setting. I had considered buying the next higher Motorola model the Moto G and bringing it to Tracfone in their BYOP program but several people said it couldn't be done with a new Verizon Prepaid phone. There is now one review that claims he activated a new Moto G on Tracfone as of December 15th. The Moto E Tracfone was the safe route to go and i am very pleased with it. Update 1/9/15 I bought a 32gb micro SD card class 10 and put 13gb of music on it from my PC. (I also moved the files from my previous card using the PC.) I now think the speaker sounds great after listening to some of the music. This is the first phone i've had where you could listen to music on the built in speaker and enjoy it. Also moving the files to the new card with an adapter in the PC was the easiest way.
