Amazingly clever
This is an amazingly clever device. And it only costs $19. Once you figure out how to assemble things, it is easy to use. I read a review indicating that it broke quickly and I can see how the lightweight tubing would break easily if you sat on it. But it seems well made. You just have to be careful with it. It has a built in rechargeable battery and operates the camera via Bluetooth which is activated by a button on the handle. You can use it for selfie photos and videos. You can also use it for a number of other things.
• You don’t have to point the cell phone camera at yourself. You can use the device to take photos from high over your head.
• You don’t even have to have the cell phone in the device to make use of the Bluetooth operation. If you prop up the cell phone or use a tripod, the selfie handle can be a remote shutter release. I tested it from 10 feet away. The head can be removed from the stick and attached to any standard tripod.
It would be a no brainer for 5 stars with just a few more instructions. For the unnecessary additional ten minutes it took to get it working I am knocking off a star. The back of the box contains a diagram. With just a few more details, a diagram would have saved me that ten minutes. One of the items that fell out of the box was a soft orange thing that did not show up on the diagram. I went to the manufacturer’s web site (www.GetFlexion.com) thinking there would be instructions. There were none. But there was a photo that showed that the soft orange thing went over the hook that holds the cell phone.
One instruction says “Enable Bluetooth on your phone (blinking blue LED). Pair with the selfie stick.” I went to the Bluetooth menu on my iPhone, but couldn't see the device to pair. I also didn't see any blinking blue LED. But then I finally looked at the end of the stick and spotted an on/off switch. I turned it on and the blinking blue LED appeared next to it. Now the device showed up on my Bluetooth menu and I had it paired. It would have been awfully easy to point out the switch on the diagram.
Readers of this review should feel free to award 5 stars because they won’t spend that extra ten minutes.
