Loving this appliance for the convenience it offers
I am not a confirmed buyer as I bought this from BB&B because I have a 20% discount with them and also products can be returned after 30 days if they malfunction. That being said, i though I would offer a review that may be helpful for buyers of this egg cooker. I bought this cooker for 12 eggs vs the 6 egg cooker to expand the options of cooking more eggs when needed. The cooking time is determined entirely by the amount of water used. When the water is evaporated, the cooking is done as far as the cooker is concerned. I decided to call tech support to get more specific directions. I was told that 1-6 eggs should use the water for 6 eggs in the manual, and 7-12 eggs should use the water recommenced for 12 eggs. The glitch is that organic eggs bought from a farmer may take longer to cook than store eggs because they are likely fresher. So, the recommended water used that determines the cook time depends on the type of eggs you are using and the size. I am still experimenting with the eggs we use that are fresh and organic, but I can see where this cooker could save me a lot of time and aggravation in cooking eggs. When boiling eggs, it is common that at least one of them cracks in the water, making a foamy mess. Then there is the task of getting them out of the water in time that they are cooked, but not too cooked. These problems don't exist with this cooker once you know how much water to use in it. When I make breakfast for my family of three, I fry 8 eggs in one pan, and also make hash browns and either sausage or bacon. The frying eggs must be watched to get them all turned before the yolks are cooked too much. Inevitably, some end up with overcooked yolks, and often at least one gets broken when it's turned. Using the poaching trays in this egg cooker, I can poach up to 7 eggs, and don't have to watch or turn any of them. To cook the 8th egg, I put it in a ramekin that fits under the dome and on top of the smaller poached egg tray. This cooker would also be useful for steaming veggies and other foods if you need to steam a portion for one. If you prefer your eggs in a different shape, you can use ramekins to cook your eggs in this cooker. Some reviews have complained about the cleaning, but the base unit is stainless steel and cleans well with Bar Keeper's Friend that is used for stainless steel pans. If you used distilled water, and wipe the base unit dry as soon as it's done cooking, you won't get water stains. Update 5/29/18: Having used this egg cooker for a few days, I have found that it is very useful for some things, but as an experienced cook, some things are easier the conventional way,. For hard boiled eggs it can't be beat. You can hard boil up to 12 eggs with no problems of them cracking in boiling water and they are always done to perfection. For me, this is worth having this appliance. Personally, I don't find the omelet pan useful for omelets since anything put into them has to be cooked separately, but this pan would be perfect to make two poached eggs for one serving. UPDATE 8/19/18: Every time I use this cooker I am amazed at how easy it has made what you would think is a simple task. Hard boiling eggs is simple, right? Boil the water and put the eggs into the water for about 10 minutes. So you get the water boiling, and slowly lower the eggs one by one into the water. POP! One of the eggs splits open and you have to get it out of the water before all of the whites spill into the boiling water.Once you get eggs cooking that don't crack, you have to get the cook time right so that the eggs don't get rubbery. Tonight, I made Caesar's salad that calls for 2 eggs in the dressing and 6 hard boiled eggs in the salads. I used to have to wait to make the dressing so that I could use eggs that cracked in the boiling water in the dressing. This time, I put 2 eggs in the dressing and 6 in this cooker with 5 ounces of water.to be hard boiled. The hard boiled eggs were perfect, and easy to peel after cooling them in a bowl of cold water. UPDATE 9/25/18: I should probably replace the original video as it was one of my disasters. I haven't had the problem with overflow since. I have used this cooker multiple time for breakfasts and have made the poached eggs. They come out in the form of an egg, but are cooked the way you want them depending on the water you add. Using this cooker, I don't have to worry about frying eggs and getting them turned before the yolks are hard. I can cook the 8 eggs needed for a family breakfast by placing one egg in a small ramekin in the top of the cooker. UPDATE 05/06/19: I have had this egg cooker for over a year, and it is the only way I hard boil eggs now. I also use it often for poached eggs for the family and for myself as a late night snack instead of fatty munchies. I put 3 eggs into the smaller poached egg tray, add 3.25 ounces of water, and the unit beeps when the eggs are done. The whites are cooked and the yolks are only slightly cooked but still somewhat runny - just the way I like them. One thing that should be noted here is that cooking time required for eggs can vary depending on the eggs you use. Fresh eggs that come from pastured chickens take a little longer to cook than eggs from the store that may not be as fresh and may come from chickens that are not pastured. UPDATE 12/09/19: I have had this egg cooker for over 18 months and am still finding new uses for it. My 99 year old mother moved in with us 8 years ago, and she and my husband get up before I do. So, he makes her breakfast which is usually oatmeal since he doesn't cook. Recently, I made 7 poached eggs for her in this cooker and froze them on a cookie sheet before putting them into a baggie. My husband warms the eggs in the microwave on a low power for 1 1/2 minutes, and the yolks are still soft. I also make waffles that he can heat in the toaster for her. Eggs and waffles make a nice breakfast for my Mom, and my husband only has to warm them for her. As often as we use this egg cooker, it still looks and works like new. I use BarKeeper's Friend to clean the base plate and it's still shiny and new-looking. I added a picture of the eggs after they were frozen.
