One of the Best, Budget-Friendly "PRO" device
Nowadays, every product with a "PRO" in the name gives off a vibe of luxury and performance. It used to mean exclusivity to professionals using that particular tool. The Kamvas Pro 16 is luxury and performance at a not-so bank breaking price. This is by far the best and the most comfortable experience that I ever had with a Huion tablet. I currently have the Kamvas GT-156HD v2 and I love it for what it is. It’s not perfect, but it works. I needed to develop a few workaround so that my workflow will not be affected by the little flaws that it had. With that said, the Kamvas Pro 16 is certainly a welcomed upgrade.
I was initially thinking of upgrading to the Wacom Cintiq 16. At $650, that’s an awesome deal for a Wacom product which has always been at the $1k mark for their pen displays. Huion always undercuts Wacom by a good amount that would allow budget-concious customers to question if Wacom is still worth it to get or just get this budget-friendly option. With that said, the Kamvas Pro 16 is a worthy contender. The display’s color is great out of the box. Tried to tweak it but I just made it worse for myself. The brightness and contrast is already good from the get go. I can always adjust the backlight if I need it to be brighter.
Best part I think is the stylus. It’s now BATTERY-FREE! No more forgetting to charge! I can just pick it up and work right away. Also, small strokes quickly registers now and doesnt clump like the GT156HDv2. I am not sure if it’s a driver issue, but I’m glad I don’t have to deal with it anymore. There’s still an accuracy issue, but I’m left-handed so it could be that. It also goes back to a default calibration at random. Only in photoshop though. It is probably because I turn off Windows Ink. Drawing and Painting on it is a treat. I would say it’s the most comparable to Wacom to date. Although the laminated screen is a bit on the smooth side, It’s not a deal breaker.
Another thing that impressed me is that Huion thought about the USB-C connector and made it “L” shaped so that it won’t stress out when tugged. It’s these tiny things that get the UX designer in me giddy. If you have $500, what are you waiting for? You'll probably use this pen-display for a long time.
