Most people leaving bad reviews did not troubleshoot... like at all
I bought two of these units for my wife and I, even though I was hesitant considering all the bad reviews saying there were battery problems, they just stop powering on, or they worked for a couple days and just stop working... We've had the two GoTcha units for a few weeks now. I wanted to really get to know it's quirks before reviewing this product because of all the "issues" people have claimed to have with them.
We got them, played with them, they worked awesome till day 3 (stay with me). Not being one to give up so easily, I decided to play with it rather than b... complain in a bad review and return something that is a real game changer for PoGo. It turns out ALL of the problems people complained about in these reviews are all the same problem... it's just a bluetooth pairing issue. You wanna know how you fix it? unpair the unit from your phone (in your bluetooth settings), and then, this is the crazy part, pair it again in the app... that's it. just like rebooting your computer for stupid issues.
You will know when you have to to this when the following happens:
- In the app the Pokemon plus icon on your hub will stay grayed out and it will not connect to the unit.
- on the GoTcha device when you try to wake it up it will look like it turns on and shuts right back off.
---
Just like the official PoGo Plus unit, you do have to engage with the Gotcha every hour or so to reconnect. this is a feature written into the PoGo software to make sure you're actually playing and not just mashing the catch button. just check the app every so often and make sure it's still connected. If the Plus logo is grayed out just tap it onscreen and tap the Gotcha to wake it up.
---
The next complaint I kept seeing is "the menu is confusing", which at first I guess it can be, but that's only because we're spoiled with super complex devices. This one is REALLY basic.
First, there is only one "button" on the unit which is a red circle touch sensor on the one end of the pill shape. This button has two functions. tap, and long hold. You will use tap to wake it up (the GoTcha logo will appear) and to cycle through the 5 different screens and long hold to change each option to activated or deactivated.
the 5 screens are
1 - Spin stops in range - (this will have a check mark if active or an X if its deactivated. to change this state long hold on the spin stops screen.
2 - Catch pokemon in range - (this will have a check mark if active or an X if its deactivated. to change this state long hold on the spin catch pokemon screen.
3 - Catch ONLY NEW pokemon in range - (this will have a check mark if active or an X if its deactivated. to change this state long hold on the spin catch new pokemon screen.
4 - Vibrate - (this will have a check mark if active or an X if its deactivated. to change this state long hold on the vibrate screen.
5 - Connect to device - (this will have a check mark if you are connected via bluetooth to a phone or tablet or an X if its not connected. to change this state long hold on the device screen *This one it's good to note that all this does is tell you if you are paired to a device, not whether the GoTcha and phone are communicating properly. for example when the issue described above with the unpair / repair fix, the unit will still show it's connected even though there is an error.
It doesn't take long to get used to the menu, I believe in you.

Next, and probably the most frustrating, but again an easy fix once you know what you want to use it for and how to set it up like that is functionality. WHAT DO YOU WANT TO USE IT FOR?
as described above the unit has two main functions (1) auto spin and (2) auto catch (all or just new).
*HUGE NOTE: If you have i set up to do both, CATCHING WILL ALWAYS TAKE PRECEDENCE. If there is a pokemon in range, and a stop in range it's going after the mon 100% of the time before a stop is ever touched. So if you have 10 Pokemon in range and one stop, it will try to catch em all ;) before it ever looks at the pokestop.
* Note 2: Auto catch ONLY uses Pokeballs, not Great Balls or Ultra Balls, those are manual catch only
OK, now knowing the notes above, you now have 3 options:
1) Both auto catch and auto spin : If this is what you want to do then the only thing you have to do after pairing is activate those options on the Gotcha, nothing on your PoGo app settings needs to change.
2) Auto spin only (how I use it 99% of the time) on the gotcha activate auto spin and deactivate auto catch. THEN on your PoGo app go to settings > Pokemon GO Plus > and under notifications turn off "Nearby Pokemon"
3) Auto Catch only (not sure why you would ever use this because catches are prioritized already, but if you just really hate free items continue) on the gotcha activate auto catch and deactivate auto spin. THEN on your PoGo app go to settings > Pokemon GO Plus > and under notifications turn off "Nearby PokeStop"

I'm sure I'm missing a couple little things, but this review is long and probably noone made it this far down anyway so happy catching if you did and if this helped you out thumb up the review
OH, spend the couple extra to get the necklace thingy and put it on a dogtag chain, so much better than that bracelet thing it comes with. \post potato.jpeg
