Retains about 1.2 pounds or so of cooked ground beef
I have been using the Snap'n Strain for a couple of months now and I have been very happy with the product and its performance before. My only use for it is to drain grease from cooked ground beef and it does this to perfection. Previously i would use a collander for draining grease, setting the collander into the kitchen sink and dumping all of the frying pans contents into the collander. That method certainly worked but never thought that was the "best" way because of the potetial for clogged plumbing and the burden It would place on my septic tank. Now i use the Snap'N Strain on the pan and pour off the hot grease into a small grease trap I keep on the stove (looks like a small old timey metal coffee pot). Later after cooling it will go into my kitchen trash can without the worry of the hot grease melting the plastic tras bag there. So short of having to invent a high temp resistant garbage bag, I have my solution with the Snap'N Strain. The product stays in place once clipped onto the pan and works well with both 11 and 12 inch pans that I have. You do have to use care when cooking more than about 1.2-1.4 pounds of ground beef because some of the beef may fall out over the lip of the strainer. I would like to see the company market a slightly larger product to handle up to about 2.5 pounds of ground beef in a typical frying pan; if they do, I would be it as well, until then I will just use a deeper pan for larger amounts of ground beef. The product cleans easily in the top rack of the dishwasher and by hand washing also. Signing off to use the Snap'N Strain once again, tacos for dinner tonight!
