Loved it, read it twice.
I never write reviews, but I feel like I am obligated to do it for this book. Too many undeserving negative reviews. Yes, this book has quite a number of prolonged philosophical "wonderings". And that's exactly why I loved it. It was an immersion into somebody else's world - a world of a pretentious teenager, a concierge woman who loves reading (no, not a genius as one review suggested, just a well read person).
And their thoughts about the people around them, about the world. I think giving it one star is practically a sacrilege. You can mention that you didn't like it - I can understand that. But the writing is exquisite, it is beautiful. If you don't like philosophy, at least you can appreciate the language.
In my world I would give one star to something like the Twilight books - the writing is pretty bad. However, the Elegance of the Hedgehog is nowhere close to something like that. If you like Action books, don't go for it. If you like slow paced books, books that make you think - this is a book for you.
