Great value for the money.
I paid far less than the current price for these, so to me, the value is significant. Even at the current price, these are well worth it, considering what else is on the market. From 3 feet, you can't tell they are cheap paper board, but closer in, the illusion gives way to reality. However, they still don't look bad, and as an inexpensive way to build out a large library, they can't be beat.
I assembled three of them (with the help of my lovely wife) in about 4 hours total. She was pre-assembling some of the steps like the angle brackets, and I was doing the line up of the facia trim and major assembly. It is very important that you get the alignment of the facia pieces right. Everything else depends on this. If you get this wrong, and you are planning on installing one or more side-by-side, they will never line up, no matter what you do, short of taking it apart and relocating the angle brackets. The instructions are pretty clear on this, so do pay attention. I had to loosen the screws holding the top cross pieces in order to get everything perfectly aligned, due to imperfections in the floor of the room in which they are installed. This had nothing to do with the product. Each piece was dimensionally perfect and fit exactly as it should have, provided I did my job properly.
These are what they are - inexpensive, but well made bookshelves. If you aren't handy with a screwdriver and can't line up a right angle or flush two pieces together, don't blame the manufacturer. I have three side by side, and they look completely awesome. See photo for evidence.
In short, if you are not scared of a little project, and are good with simple tools, you can't go wrong. If you're not so handy, buy something pre-assembled, or have someone do it for you, but please don't ding a perfectly fine product for your own assembly mistakes.
