What you need to know about micro usb cables
Why buy these when I have at least 8 micro usb cables that came with various devices along the way? Micro USB cables use two wires, one for data and one for power. Many use 28 gauge for data and 28 gauge for power(28/28). While 28 is fine for data, 28 for power limits the amount of power that can be transmitted to the device you are charging. Hence with 28/28 you will have slow charging. The problem with all the cables I have is that there is basically no way to tell whether they are 28/28 cable or a 28/24 (the lower gauge number is thicker wire). Some better cables are 28/24 or even better. These New Element cables are 28/22 hence when used with an adapter plug that is rated at 2 amp hours the device will charge faster if the device being charged is capable of accepting 2amp hours. A word about adapter plugs. The plug rating is printed on the plug (although you usually need a magnifying glass to read it. I have a usb power hub that can put out 2.4 amp hours per port as well as a battery pack (RAV Power) that can put out over 2amh. Hence to take advantage of the these capabilities I need cables that can transmit at that rate. (I could of course discharge my cell phone then see how long each cable I have takes to charge it and thereby get some indication of the rating of the cable). However three of these cables cost $6 so that would be ridiculous. I went for these because the description on Amazon listed the 28/22 gauge. Many others are either silent or say something like "high speed" which may or may not mean a lower than 28 gauge power cable.
