Cute glitters and add-ins to make “potions”
I’m a 5th generation witch with roots back to Roanoke, so I know my potions. It’s very hard to find good preschool enrichment for child witches, so this was a happy find. Potions are an art form, so it’s good to start off your young ones early.
Just kidding, I’m just a regular mom whose kids probably watch too many slime and craft videos on YouTube. This looked very promising for my kids who adore crafts and science. First off my 5 and 9 year old both enjoyed the craft. There are several glitters, bottles, add-ins and an instruction book. If your leery of Halloweenish type potions , don’t be. These potions are cute and whimsical, with a little fairy 🧚♀️ lore to go with them. No hexes or chanting. My nine year old could read the recipes herself and make the potions. My five year old just mixed stuff together and made her own mess, I mean mix😉.
The directions are easy. Mix the glitters, add some gems/wings/unicorn hair/unicorn horns, put in a bottle with the funnel, add water, and cap. The potions are made for the 4 larger jars, the cute tiny jars just take glitters and water. Sounds easy enough but there are some downfalls. First, the unicorn 🦄 hair is plastic streamers that are almost impossible to fit in a jar. Second, the fairy wings are actually butterflies 🦋 (which was a detail my daughters did not miss), and need to be rolled to fit in a jar. Third, the gems are just small seed beads. These add-ins were pretty boring and needed more imagination and patience than my kids had. Both girls loved the three unicorn horns, more of these type add-ins would have been great. The glitters are all different and cute. Easy to pour. The funnel and mixing equipment were all of useful size. My girls made all their potions, turned some to necklaces, and used their imaginations for an hour. There is a cute display included to store the potions. I did glue the cork caps just to prevent spills.
My kids did enjoy this craft and it was cute. I can see this craft having the potential to be a big clean up endeavor if used with young kids, physical dexterity is a must. I think this is a great find and would make a fun gift; however, the price at twenty bucks is a little steep for what you get. I can go to the craft store and get many times more for the same amount, sans the potions book and adorable packaging.
