Lighter & more compact, but not as versatile, as Inglesina Fast Table
We own this as well as the Inglesina Fast Table chair (Inglesina Fast Table Chair, Black), and I'd recommend them for different situations.
MOUNTAIN BUGGY
+ Best-in-class portability (ultra lightweight at only 2.2 lbs., folds up totally flat, fits easily into a diaper bag & is almost effortless to carry around)
+ Machine washable fabric
- Clamp mechanism doesn't work with tables thicker than two inches, or that have a thick lip (see attached for an example of a thick concrete table that it did not work on)
- Seat is a bit flimsy (less structured vs. the Inglesina). When pulling my kid out, her feet always get stuck in the footholes and we have to manually manipulate them out. We can pull her out of the Inglesina much more easily. Also when our kid twists around in the seat, the fabric sort of rotates around the metal frame rather than staying put (see photo)
- Seat is IMO too deep. My baby started fitting into it well around 18 months, but before that her arms were below table height. My guess is the seat would be way too deep for a 6 month old baby.
INGLESINA
+ Super versatile clamp. In about 4 years of using this thing, we've never encountered a table it didn't work on.
+ Machine washable fabric
- Heavier than the Mountain Buggy, at 4.2 lbs.
- Doesn't fold totally flat
I also looked at the phil&teds Lobster Highchair, Black, but I ruled that out because, while clamp mechanism will work on tables much thicker (up to 3.75") than the Mountain Buggy Pod, it won't work on tables with ANY kind of a lip. That was a deal breaker for me because restaurant tables often have lips. FWIW though this one weighs under 4 lbs (heavier than the Mountain Buggy, but a bit lighter than the Inglesina).
In summary, if you're looking for the most travel-friendly high chair possible, which will be super easy to take with you everywhere, and are prepared for it to be slightly inconvenient at times and not work on 5% of tables, get the Mountain Buggy Pod. However, if you want something more fully functional, that will work on any table, and are OK with it being a bit heavier and bulkier, go for the Inglesina. The Inglesina would also be great for semi-permanent installation in a smaller kitchen, or if you have a smaller baby. And the phil&teds Lobster might also be another option to consider if you are certain you're never going to be using it on a table with a lip.
I'm attaching some pics of the Pod (black) and the Inglesina Fast Table (red, older 2012 model but I believe the design is pretty much the same; they've updated it so the fabric is now removable and machine washable though, yay!).
