I'm a big believer in HEPA filtration for my home thus I'm a big fan of this product. I've attached some pictures of the first gen filter after approx 4600 hours of usage. Dyson recommends changing this filter after 4300 hours of usage. Notice the darkness of the old filter compared to the new one. At one point, the dark filter was just as white as the new filter! This 2nd generation filter has multiple added layers of filter materials to further improve the filtration of your air. I can feel by just touching it that the new filter portion is overall a little bit thicker than the first gen filter yet it fits just as well as the first filter did into the Dyson Air Purifier. My advise is to take the filter out of the Dyson and then take a high power vacuum and vacuum the outside of the filter every 60 days or so to help clear up some of the dust accumulation on the outside of the filter and to also extend the overall longevity of the filter. Despite the steep price tag for the Purifier, There really isn't another air filter/Purifier on the market to compare it to. (I am now talking about the total cost of the air Purifier including the 2nd gen filter) I have put aside the cost of the Dyson Purifier and instead am focusing of the positive health benefits in knowing that I'm breathing fresh & pure HEPA+ filtrated air at night when the Dyson fan is facing me as I sleep. I can now also control my Dyson air purifier through Amazon Alexa. "Alexa, ask Dyson for fan speed 6" :)
