Finally - a true successor to the M50. It's great.
After several disappointing headsets, I had discovered the Plantronics M50. It was the first one to work well - good price, long battery life, easy and reliable to use, very comfortable to wear. Just read the 20000+ reviews on the M50 on Amazon here. Unfortunately, the M50 is being discontinued, and prices are increasing. There is a newer version, M55, but it doesn't have the same proven design as the M50.
This headset, the Explorer 50, is the true successor to the M50. It has all the same qualities that made the M50 famous, including a good price and so comfortable to wear that you'll probably forget it's still in your ear. It even has a very useful new feature: Hold the volume button for 2 seconds, and it will announce "Mute: On" to indicate your mic is muted. Hold it again for 2 seconds, you'll hear "Mute: Off". Perfect.
So for all of you who are looking for a worthy replacement of the Plantronics M50: The Explorer 50 is it. I have both. They are virtually identical, the Explorer 50 has the mute function, and the call accept button is a little smaller and harder to press by accident, which is probably a good thing. The M50 used to redial once in a while when squeezed in my pocket after I forgot to turn it off, I think this is less likely to happen with the Explorer 50.
So thank you, Plantronics, for continuing this proven design with just some minimal tweaks (smaller call button, mute function). If it aint broke, don't fix it. I hope this headset will be available for a long time to come, maybe I'll buy another one just as a spare.
