This is a great idea. Kudos to Ring. Unlike other motion detector lights, the ring step light allows you to adjust the light's settings. Such as motion sensitivity, brightness and when you want it to come on. And you can link it to your other Ring devices. For example you can tell Your spotlight can to record video if motion is detected at your step light. I only have one step light for illumination out back at a door. But I do have it linked to other devices that have a camera and recording abilities so if the step light is activated the other device will record. I also can get notifications if motion is detected at the step light. Only had the device for a month and barely used any battery power. Will update later on battery life. That's the other great feature. No hard wiring. These lights use regular batteries. BATTERY UPDATE 8/26/19 This light has a lot of activity around it. And it is installed in a shaded area that never gets direct sunlight, so the light comes on in a low light setting sooner than it would if it was installed in an area that gets sunlight. So that being said, 3 months of heavy activity and the batteries are at 60%. I’m impressed.
