We used to use the Marpac Dohm-DS white noise machine. It's pretty good and receives many 5 star reviews, deservedly so. But over time the Marpac developed a slight intermittent vibrating noise that I couldn't get rid of. After some investigation I decided to try the AST Sound+Sleep machine. It's the only electronic sound machine I've come across that doesn't have irritating end-of-cycle anomalies. The Marpac is very good and significantly less money, but our favorite sound machine is the Sound+Sleep. We probably use the plain old white-noise channel the most, but we like being able to switch over to one of the other sound channels from time to time, something not possible with the mechanical Marpac device. We've even plugged our bedroom sound system into the Sound+Sleep's external jack. If you like the idea of sleeping on the beach one night, you got it! We've had the Sound+Sleep for five years now. What's prompted me to submit a review after all this time? The white-noise channel now has a very noticeable sound distortion and is no longer usable. I called the manufacturer's support line seeking technical support. "Jack" answered on the first ring. I gave him the serial number. He told me no problem, dispose of my Sound+Sleep in a responsible manner, meanwhile he'll ship me a new unit. He emailed me the tracking number. From the first phone ring to getting a tracking number didn't take more than 5 minutes. Super customer service! So rare.
