We bought this sewing machine for a child. I hadn't seen any other reviews, so I bought it thinking it might go back. I am happy to say that it works very well. It would be suitable for a beginning sewer-child or adult. It has a nice range of stitches and all the standard features that you might look for in a basic sewing machine. For the money, this machine works fine. It can easily be used for projects such as making clothes, curtains, and alterations. It's a good basic machine for a child to learn on. I'd pay the extra $20. and bypass getting a "toy" sewing machine. They don't work very well and make for a very frustrating experience.
