Absolute Lifesaver!
Here's the overview: Pros: - Less pain - Easier to latch - Makes breastfeeding more enjoyable - May help with a powerful letdown Cons: - Need to keep clean - Can fall off your boob, can be fruustrating with as hungry baby - One more thing you always need to make sure you have in your diaper bag After struggling to get a latch that didn't leave me bruised & bleeding, my hospital lactation consultant gave me one of these before being discharged from the hospital. I instantly went from dreading feeding my baby & wincing in pain (& feeling guilty), to enjoying nursing! After 6 weeks with nipple shields, my dog got ahold of them so I tried to nurse without them & it's simply too painful still. I gave it a shot for a few days, but it is still painful & I enjoyed nursing much more with the nipple shield. Since trying to nurse without the nipple shield, my baby chokes while eating. I believe my letdown is too much at times. This was never an issue before, so I believe the nipple shields make the letdown more manageable for baby. So, I've gladly just reordered. Sometimes the shield is frustrating when my baby knocks it off or having to wash it, it seems like just one more thing to do. But, for me overall enjoying the time with my baby far outweighs the downsides. Also, getting it wet helps it stick better & it wont get knocked off so easily. I cannot express how grateful I am for this product! I think I would be exclusively pumping if it weren't for this & I think that would be really tough.
