HIGHLY RECOMMEND FOR THE PRICE!! Especially for a novice sewer! I have been sewing for 32 years, and have only ever purchased numerous Singer sewing machines...9 in total...but I purchased this Brother sewing machine, because it had almost all of the features that I was seeking..(only lacking an automatic thread cutter button...) and for the price, it offers everything that a sewer could want....speed control button, the ability to use the machine without using a foot pedal...allowing for consistent speed, making it easier for someone to focus on the sewing needle and the the seam at hand, without having to also trying to maintain a speed consistently by the foot pedal. The up & down button, allows a person to stop & pivot from the same spot, making sewing easier, and the fact that the machine is computerized, punching buttons, in order to change settings, such as needle position...and stitch length, or width, or the many different utility or decorative stitches....in this price range, most other machines are not computerized!! also, the ability to "drop the feed dog's" with a simple flip of a switch is so beneficial if you are a quilter, and want to do free-motion quilting! not ever found usually in a machine of this price range! And also, the extension table is an asset, as well as all of the different feet provided with this machine....recommended highly.
