Squirrel terminator
I've never had an issue with squirrels before. They did their thing, I did mine. That's until I discovered they had chewed through the wire mesh on the eaves of my house and made a home in the attic. They were also grinding their teeth down by chewing on my hardy plank. So this ended our mutual agreement to leave each other alone and live in peace. There is no peace now, only war. This trap is the bomb. I have captured 8 squirrels in three days. If you purchase the standard model, take the advice of other reviewers and spray paint them with something satin. The standard models rust quickly. IMO, they should just sell the rust resistant models and I would have purchased those instead but I didn't see them until I had already purchased the standard model. When you first place the traps, give it a day or two before the squirrels get comfortable. I put three traps on top of my fence and one in the front yard under a bush. They were very aware of them and avoided the traps on the first day. I sprinkled some sunflower seeds along the top of the fence leading to each trap. I noticed that the squirrels would take the bait on the fence but they were very hesitant to enter the trap. They would stare into the trap and flicker that tail like crazy but they would not enter the trap. However, the second day was completely different. It only took them a day to get comfortable. They just couldn't resist the sunflower seed/peanut butter combo. It's like squirrel candy I tell ya. I got two squirrels on the second day and at least two more everyday after that. I placed the bait right in the middle of the trigger pan and tossed a few sunflower seeds into the trap for good measure. Works like a charm. Be sure to check your traps every evening before going to bed. One morning as I was leaving for work I discovered one of my traps laying in the front yard. Something had ripped it off of the fence and drug it into the front yard. Whatever did it had eaten half of the squirrel that was inside. I had just removed a squirrel from that exact trap when I got home that evening and re-baited it. I guess it didn't take long for another squirrel to come along right behind it and take the bait. I have all my traps secured with a cord tied to the fence but whatever ate the squirrel was strong enough to rip the cord off. It had to be a cat or raccoon. Just be sure to check your traps before going to bed or you might end up with a half eaten squirrel in yours and the mess that goes a long with it. Update 6/2/15 --- When I first set these traps (May 18, 2015) I was expecting to eliminate the five or six squirrels I spotted on a daily basis around my house. I assumed that they were the ones that were doing all the destruction to my house. Well..... in 16 days I have trapped 28 squirrels, and counting... I had no idea the squirrel problem was this monumental. If you think you have a "few" squirrels to deal with, think again....
