Don't cross the streams
I use these on my cats to keep them off the table. First I shout "NOOO!" and then squirt them. They get the point RIGHT away, it took my kitten exactly 1 day before it learned not to go on the table when I'm standing there holding the squirt gun.
Also my 7 year old daughter loves these and played all summer with them and the neighbor boy who I want her betrothed to.
