Does the job!
I did a lot of researching on different gates for our stairs to keep our 18 mth old toddler from going up/down, or at least trying. The hard part was trying to find a gate for what I measured as a 45" inch opening from wall to banister. But now after installing this gate we've come to learn that once the gate is fully installed we only needed the gate to be only 41" as the hinges take a couple inches each side and the expandable screws will close in the few inches gap if necessary. I ordered a banister install kit to avoid drilling holes on the wood from a different gate company and it worked well. We made a few extra holes due to errors such as not taking into consideration the baseboards, it will change your gate width and will cause your gate to be installed uneven. The screws provided also were not long enough to reach the stud, so our gate is up higher than intended to stay above the base board and to reach the stud. Also with the banister kit, we ended up attempting to drill a hole directly over the existing screw holding the banister kit in place so we had to move everything up and add more holes. All in all it is not the prettiest and most elegant of set ups but is definitely sturdy enough for our munchkin for hopefully 2 years when we can finally take them down. Definitely a 2 person job to hold everything in place especially by the stairs for a total of 2-3 hours for 2 gates. The best part of these gates is there is nothing to step over when going through the gate.
