I absolutely love coconut oil. First, it smells amazing - Nutiva coconut oil, in particular, smells incredible. As soon as you open the jar, the scent of pure coconut wafts through the air. Secondly, coconut oil has so many health benefits. I started reading about it 5 years ago and have been buying it ever since. It's a natural anti-bacterial and anti-fungal. With our tendency to eat so many processed foods filled with sugar, many people have an imbalance of bad bacteria vs. good bacteria in our guts as well as on our skin. Coconut oil, in simple terms, fights the "bad guys". It will reduce candida and yeast, protecting your body and strengthening your immune system. You can take spoonfuls of coconut oil and add it to your meals, even dropping a dollop or two in a bowl of soup to add both nutrients and calories. I cook it with it constantly. It pairs well with fish, chicken, and vegetables. You can also bake with it. Some of my favorite recipes contain coconut oil, including a paleo gingerbread that tastes just like the real thing. Yum! Coconut oil is also beneficial as a beauty product. You can use it in your hair or on your skin. For the hair, it strengthens follicles and improves shine and for the skin, it purifies it and smooths it. I've noticed a great improvement in my skin using coconut oil. You can even use it as an ingredient in bath, body, or skincare products that you can make at home. Google "coconut oil" and "lotion recipe" for some great ideas. I always buy Nutiva because the price is reasonable, and I've found it to be the most high quality coconut oil that I've bought. I've bought many too. I like that it comes in a 54 ounce container because, like I said, it's an all-purpose product. I always make sure to restock it when we're running low because it's become a necessity in our home, and we use it for so many purposes.
