Third coats a charm.
So... I've been waiting several months to write this review because I wanted to have a little time to check the longevity of this product, so here it goes. I'll keep this short and to the point. If this is your last ditch effort to save some money on remodeling then do it. Otherwise look for another option because this stuff is not fun to play with. However, it did do the job. Below I’ll list some helpful tips, pros, and cons. Tips: - allow several hrs to clean and prep, maybe even a day. The prep is the key. - buy a respirator -remove all bathroom hardware - do not use a foam roller - smooth finish 8inch nap worked best for our full shower - VENTILATION! Make sure the area is and can be aired out for a week or more. This stuff is stout -Be prepared to do a third coat if you're covering a tub that wasn't previously white -Don't freak after first coat Pros: -very cheap alternative -it pretty much works as it says -so far longevity is good -the company is helpful Cons: -for the first coat, it's like painting with 1% milk. Very difficult to control runs -this stuff is very harsh. The Smell seriously lasted for weeks. Seemed like every shower reactivated the smell. -you have to remove ALL caulk which can be a nightmare on an older tub -be prepared to have spots. Places where it simply wouldn't chemically adhere -if you do a third coat you'll have to wait for a full 48hrs -it gets very ”gummy” very fast, two people painting on a larger shower would be optimal Overall, we’re happy with our result. It was a pain but mainly because the original color of our tub wasn't white. I'm glad we did it but it was definitely stressful. The third coat made all the difference in our project. Like I mentioned earlier if it's a last-ditch choice do it. But if you have the money or resources to replace than id recommend replacing. We a couple small spots that the chemical just would not adhere to. I contacted the company and they said there was a bonding issue with something on the surface. Likely some left behind bleach etc. Rustoleum was very helpful and we were able to lightly sand and go back over those spots with some success per their instructions.
