Item as pictured, NO BAD SMELL!
I just set up my new 4-bag sorter, it took me about 30 mins to assemble solo, went smoothly, and I’m pleased with the result. Some reviewers mentioned a strong, chemical smell to the bags themselves, but the company seems to have remedied this complaint by adding 3 silica gel pouches to each of the bags to absorb any latent odors from manufacturing. I did not smell anything odd as I unpackaged and set up the sorter. Now, for anyone concerned about stability of the finished product, as I agree the metal could be heavier-duty, I figured out a trick to increase the strength and even balance of the sorter. During assembly, I alternated the direction of the support beams — the long metal poles you put together by sliding the two halves into one another until the button pops out. While installing them to the side pieces with the screws, I turned every other pole the opposite way so that the “seams” were not lined up. This way, there isn’t a junction in the middle of the finished cart that can wobble or potentially bend out of place. I also made sure that all the buttons faced down, out of the way, as I screwed the poles in place. I included a picture for reference. Overall, I am very satisfied with this sorter. I have another 3-bag sorter with a folding table/ironing board top, but I am totally OCD about pre-sorting my laundry, so I wanted the extra compartments to differentiate between colors/types of clothes even further. I will use the 3-sorter for my regular wash & dry items, and the 4-sorter for my delicate, hang-to-dry clothes, which seem to make up the majority of my wardrobe these days. I like to take really good care of my clothes, as I have invested a lot over the years building my “adult” wardrobe. If the care tag says “hang to dry” or “lay flat to dry,” it doesn’t go in the dryer, period. I have limited hanging space, though, so I can only wash so many items at a time. Having the clothes separated into smaller, more manageable loads will really help the whole process of doing laundry be easier on me.
