Great candy with a couple of caveats
Cadbury Mini Eggs are, if not my favorite Easter-only candy, definitely one of my favorites. That they're only available at Easter makes me simultaneously very sad and very relieved; if I could eat them year-round, I'd either get sick of them, which would be a tragedy, or I'd be as big as a house, which would be an even bigger tragedy. When my grocery store stopped stocking them for some unfathomable reason -- I mean, they're *wonderful* -- I turned to Amazon for my annual display of gross gluttony. (Don't think I can't pack away 5 lbs of these all by myself. Probably in just a few days.) The candy itself is great, as usual. There were two things that surprised me a bit, however. First, these weren't the individual bags I was expecting. The listing says nothing about getting 5 lbs worth of individual retail bags, but that's still what I figured I was buying. Instead, they came in a great big clear bulk heavy-industrial sort of plastic bag that doesn't have any sort of zip closure or branding or anything on it. On its own, it's not precisely a negative. I mean, I guess I'd rather not have to use one of my own ziplock bags to store these once I've opened the bag in came in -- incidentally, if you're wondering, 5 lbs fills a gallon-size ziplock bag maybe 3/4 full -- but considering buying them this way was cheaper than getting multi-packs of the retail bags...whatever. The other thing I noticed was just how many came cracked, or broken in half, or missing their shell. Again, this doesn't bother me, exactly; since I'm planning to hoarf the whole 5 lbs myself -- probably a half pound at a sitting, huddled in a dark corner, looking furtive -- I don't much care what they look like. It's not like I bought them to put on display in a pretty candy dish. I also can't really guarantee that all bags, including the retail ones, aren't exactly the same. The retail bags are opaque, so who knows just how many are cracked or damaged. So, five stars from me since I don't care what sort of bag they come in or what condition they're in. You may want to head over to one of the more-expensive-per-pound listings, however, if the presentation is important to you. Now if you'll excuse me, I have a diabetic coma to get back to. EDIT: I thought I'd come back and update this, since, as I implied I would, I've gone through an obscene number of these; they're not very consistent. I've gotten bags where more of the eggs were broken than not, and I've gotten ones that are almost all in perfect photo-ready condition. (Funnily enough, the best shipment breakage-wise was the most frustrating. They double bagged it and then packed it in a ridiculous amount of bubble wrap. It took forever to break through to the candy. I was almost in tears by the end.) In other words, they're not guaranteed to be horribly cracked/broken, but if you order them, you're taking your chances. It's worth pointing out, though, that not a single one had stale-tasting candy. That's the important thing.
