Long term fitbit user switched over to this
UPDATE Nov 2018
Product still works well. The only things I've run into is sometimes it unbinds for whatever reason, I have to restart phone and then go to my bluetooth settings to take off the device manually. The user guide says this could be a problem for IOS users...Had to manually sync again to make sure daylight savings time changes.
Band has discolored a lot. The fitbit bands don't discolor this easily. But it hasn't cracked at all.
Heart rate monitor isn't very accurate and jumps around. To turn off the green light, turn off HR monitor, to manual mode in settings. Without HR on auto, the band lasts a week on a charge. Band also charges really quickly.
Doesn't seem like app updates often.
----
As someone that's been using the fitbit for over a few years, finding a reasonably priced fitness band is such a relief. I've gone through my fitbit flex which had charging issues, my fitbit charge had the bubbling band issue, and I didn't want to get another fitbit for a band that doesn't last a year or has issues. So I got this. And wow this thing performs just like a fitbit minus some features. I compare fitbit because that's what I've been using and imo, overrated fitness band at this point with its issues.
Pros:
Step, heart rate, sleep monitoring for only $30 bucks. A fitbit HR would cost $100. I guess the technology for this stuff has gone down in price. I am not sure if the HR functions are accurate though. And sometimes when I flick thru the screen, sometimes it tells me my current heart rate but sometimes it needs like 30 seconds to find my pulse. But I'm not too concerned with HR tbh.
App actually works - fitbit has always had app syncing issues but this app does sync pretty well. Claims it only holds a week worth of data, so sync like at least 1-2 times a week.
Only 1 touch to turn the screen on - the basic fitbit bands you could tap it but you'd need to tap it pretty hard and in a certain way.
Removable bands - so if the bands break it's replaceable which the company offers on Amazon.
Built in charger - no cables just stick it into the usb port, it doesn't look like a typical usb port but it still functions like one.
The band fits my tiny wrists. I'm a small person so I'd always need to make sure the tracker fits me. A small fitbit band I'd always need to use the tightest width. With this one, I use the 3rd to most tightest width.
Cons:
Not able to sync data to myfitnesspro. Probably because this band is a copy of a fitbit and it's one of the numerous Chinese fitness trackers out there. It syncs to apple health app but I use MFP to track calories.
Green light turns on at night when it detects you're falling asleep. Kinda annoying. sometimes it turns on randomly when I'm doing something in the dark. I really don't understand it.
It's used about 20% energy a day, the product claims up to 7 days use but it's really more like you gotta charge every 4 days. Which is ok imo. It's a question of if it will start to drain more often down the road or not, like I gotta charge every day or every other day in a year or what.
Improvements I'd like to see:
Refine the app: weird English phrases abound, the app works but it doesn't always feel smooth changing from today's stats to yesterday's stats. A lot of Chinese apps have weird apps with their products, they work, but it's not polished at all in terms of text and user interface. There is a space to put a username, height, weight, age, but nothing else.
Be able to turn off the green light when it detects sleep mode. There's no way to turn it off at night, unless maybe HR is set to manual mode?
Be able to sync with some sort of major food diary app, be able to record water consumption, goal weight, etc.
Overall if you're looking for a fitness band that works and don't want to pay so much, this works. The question now is if this will last or fall apart. I may update this review in the future.
