This is like a prequel to the August Mackenzie series. It’s not an “origin”, as the North murders mentioned in his other books aren’t described here. Like Robert B Parker, the dialogue and humor are outstanding. And it does explain how he ended up in his ‘first novel’ August Origins. I promise you if you read the book, you’ll thank me afterwards.
