Please read if you have a medium / older dog
I tried several doors and finally picked this one for one reason - the bottom of the door is much closer to the floor on this one vs Ideal Pet. I have a medium and a small dog. I first bought the Ideal Pet door (I like that the plastic on the flap was clear vs tinted, the was it is on this one) and my medium dog had a hard time climbing through the hole because it was so high off the floor. So I went to Lowes to see if they carried their version of a patio dog door and they did - made by PerSafe (I ended up buying it there). I bought it there and it is much better for both of my dogs. They both climb through easily. The small one doesn't have to jump and the medium one doesn't have to lift her legs too high. The lock is a nice edition, but it doesn't quite work. The space between the left and right part of the lock is not wide enough to connect the dog door panel and your existing door or frame. It's a good idea though, I think I will buy another lock with a wider space in between and put it on. It's better than dealing with the bar every time (I have big plants in the front of the door). Here are the photos of two doors so you can see the difference. The IdealPet opening is about 8" off from the bottom whereas PetSafe is only 4".
