REViEW: Tips and tricks for hair and skin
Being a southeast asain girl, i've grown up using coconut oil (CO) in almost everything in my daily life (cooking, hair spa, skincare, etc). For those who have never used the CO before, here are some tips and tricks: HAIR: I have straight black and thick asian hair. I put CO on my hair and leave it on for at least 30 min before washing it. This will makes my hair smooth and silky (see pics). If you have an oily scalp, avoid a direct contact with it yet focus on the hair instead. For the first time user, start off with a small amount first. Do not overuse it as it may reduce hair volume (especially if you already have oily hair). If you dont have time for a hair spa, you can mix the CO with your shampoo and conditioner. I use about 5-10 drops of CO and mix it with my shampoo or cond in my hand. I always leave my mixed conditioner on my hair while brushing my teeth or shaving to allow the CO to penetrate my hair. After rinsing and drying, my hair feels incredible good. No excess oil left on my hair as i would imagine. I have got so many compliments on my hair, too (see photos). SKIN: I apply CO on my skin right after shower (before drying your body). Droplets of water will help CO penetrate the skin without feeling greasy. Use can also use CO as a makeup remover, facial toner, and eye cream. It makes my skin feel soft and smooth. CO is solid at temperatures under 76 F (or <24C). You can directly scoop it out and use it right away as it will easily melt in your hand. Try to use a clean spoon to get the solid CO out to avoid ant contamination. If you need to use the liquid version, simply place the container in a warm water bath. It melts fairly quick, and you can pour it out as needed. If you decide to do it this way, I highly recommend to aliquot the CO to another container (just enough for a single use) before melting as i believe that reheating and cooling many times may degrade the properties of the CO. NEVER microwave the CO as it will deteriorate the oil and cause the yellowing issue. Note that this brand carries two versions of coconut oil: cold pressed and expeller pressed. Although i cant really differentiate one from the other, Cold pressed is what i prefer and is supposed to be better (according to research studies). When i ordered the cold pressed from amazon last time, i received the expeller pressed instead, so i just want u to be aware of this. Good luck and hope you will enjoy CO as much as i do.
