The year was 1990 and I was in Circuit City looking for a new boombox. I listened to all the boomboxes in the store, and the Phillips had the best sound by a long shot. I bought it and put it to good use for the next 30 years. Fast forward to today, and it was time to replace the old reliable boombox. I found this one and ordered it, knowing that they "don't make 'em like they used to". But, I was so pleasantly surprised that this boombox is awesome! It has a lot going for it, but first of all the sound quality is great. I have a Sony boombox that sounds hollow and tinny, and this Phillips is a different animal. The sound is full, clear, and warm. Not as warm as my Bose Wave Radio, but that's okay. There are several preset equalizer settings, and then the best part the BASS button. I keep it at setting 1 but if you are feeling adventurous you can put it on setting 2. The box has bass ports so you get a nice low end warmth to the sound. My old boombox only had CD/RADIO/TAPE. This one has CD/RADIO/BLUETOOTH/AUX IN/NFC/HEADPHONE. Bluetooth works great. I compared the sound using AUX-IN and BLUETOOTH and the Bluetooth sounded as good or better as AUX-IN. And it is awesome to have a CD player! I have many CD's that I still listen to regularly so this was a must-have. The unit can run on D-BATTERIES which is great. In a power outage I would much rather have batteries than have to recharge a built-in battery! Finally, the unit itself is very handsome. Not too big, not too small. Very pleased with this purchase and I do think this is the best boom box out there right now.
