MOUNTING THIS UNIT - LOOK HERE...or waste countless hours then throw away..
OK... Unit is 99% plastic, but hey what today isn't, the mounting neck, internal blades, driveshaft and feed-tube flange are the only metal parts on this unit.
The unit is small in circumference from any other unit I've had, which means you will have more space under your sink if you haven't replaced a disposal in the last year or so you'll be pleasantly surprised.
Sink side installation is simpler than those old units (on the sink portion only), its literally drop the feed tube in (from top/sink) screw on a big plastic (see plastic) ring from up underneath and it's in..then there's the catch...a huge catch!
The entire unit hangs on the feed-tube with no bolts..seriously nothing but a rubber gasket that pushes up onto the feed-tube with the metal bracket above it and it's that rubber gasket that holds the whole thing hanging... I thought NO WAY this will hang here..but it does.. and it actually dampens the vibrations and makes for a quieter unit.
Now here the catch...getting the disposal up onto the feed-tube bracket to do the hanging..the instructions say to push that rubber gasket up fully until it seats past a lip on the tube, then lift the disposal up until it catches the ears on the metal ring, twist the ring and it pulls it all up snug!...well I've read fairy tails before and they sound pleasant but NEVER gonna happen that way.
SO, what to do?!?..If you haven't read this you're about to throw it in the trash, send it back..beat with a hammer!..seriously it's that bad (I read here someone tried a vehicle jack to try and press it up on the bracket and yeah that didn't even work).
OK ..now push the metal bracket up on the feed-tube, then take the rubber gasket and press it HALF-WAY over the mouth (DO NOT push it all the way over the lip and DO NOT even think of pushing it all the way up where the instructions..instruct.)
Once its here, lift the disposal up as far on the tube as possible, next pull the metal collar/catch DOWN as hard as possible over the ears on the disposal *while lifting the disposal unit up* twist the collar to catch and the while thing will tighten and hold.
NOTE: 2 people for this is best (1 to hold until and lift, other to pull down collar and twist) however it can be done alone (what I did) but I put something underneath the disposal to hold it as far up so I'd only have to slightly lift while pulling down with all I had.
Now once installed, you probably have no plug under the sink and you're thinking of chopping the plug off on the unit to hard wire...DON'T!
Not only dangerous because the wiring isn't the same, but this is a potential wet area, if the thing shorts or wires come apart..fire, death..no not worth $15 gang box (plastic housing) and outlet.
Just run the power line into the box, into the outlet, screw to the wood under your sink and plug in..that easy and you can easily change out in future (in mins)
Amazon sells the outlet here, just add 1 outlet and 1 gang box (outdoor outlet box), the box holds the outlet so you don't have a live outlet hanging under sink (I recommend a surge protector outlet so if it gets wet etc).
Good news is it's quiet, powerful and chops up anything you can throw at it!
Enjoy!
