Be aware that it won’t account for US standards
I was torn over how many stars to give this product because I honestly would not have a dishwasher if it weren’t for this design and technology but there are some serious concerns I think other US buyers should be aware of before purchasing - especially at $1500. I went with 4 stars only because the design and functionality are awesome. I have a small, historic home, and didn’t want to sacrifice cabinet space for a large slide-in dishwasher that I don’t need - so, this was the perfect solution! Anyway - before I get into the bad news, here is the good news - it works great! It really does work well, takes up little space and I unexpectedly LOVE the produce washing feature. I went to the store recently and bought several containers of berries, and it washed and drained them beautifully. No bruising or smashing at all. It also cleans my dishes well and uses less water than I was using when I was hand washing all of my dishes. The sink is nice and deep and I have no problem fitting large pots or other oversized kitchenware in it. Now the bad news.... if you have an existing sink (not new construction) realize that you will have to buy new countertops. The depth of the sink (front to back) is shorter than the US standard so when you go to set the sink in, you will have about a 2” gap. I had to buy new countertops because I didn’t want to go with an unsightly solution to cover the gap. I did see that another buyer added a piece of steel but I use this in my kitchen and didn’t want to use that option. You cannot shut the lid if you load US standard sized dinner plates (10-11”). I was able to lean the plates over and it washed fine, but frankly- for $1500 I’d like to be able to easily wash my dinner sized plates. Probably after using this for awhile I won’t care (or I’ll invest in smaller plates) but after the sticker shock of the dishwasher, new countertops and the installation, this was an unexpected aggravation. A few other notes... I wish the warranty information was clearer in the description. I purchased an additional warranty through Amazon because this is a Japanese company that I do not know much about. It added an additional $100 to the purchase price. Maybe this company has a stellar warranty program, but it’s not clear. Also, the instructions are poorly written. It’s almost as if someone just used “google translate” to create the instructions from the Japanese. I was working with a contractor and he was able to figure things out easily, and the washing features are fairly straightforward, but at this price point, you’d think they could invest in a multi-language technical writer. I’m torn as to whether I think it should include a faucet. It’s just another added expense to an already expensive product but I did not choose a nickel plated faucet (as seen in the product photos), so I am probably glad it wasn’t included. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase, but given how much this product cost and the fact that it doesn’t accommodate US standards, I couldn’t give it 5 stars.
