Alarm Clock for the Kindle Fire & HD: It's a good one
Sometimes it's handy to have a spare clock for travel or home, and Alarm Clock for the Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD or Android device is one of those apps that adds to the versatility of this device. What makes this one so good is that it's simple to set up, yet it offers a number of customizable options that make it truly yours.
It downloads it cleanly in seconds, then you go to the setup page, which can be accessed at all times by touching the upper right corner of the screen with your finger or stylus. You'll see a little gear symbol, and wide variety of options for personalization show up as check boxes. Starting with the Display category, you can show seconds, show day, and show next alarm. In the clock style selection, you can choose between Digital (the default), Thinline (a contemporary analog clock), or Wordy (a fascinating selection that will tell you the time with highlighted words on a wood-grained background).
There's a Weather section just below, and you can set your location, your temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius, wind speed in a variety of options, and then choose whether or not display those details on the clock face. There are a number of other options in the Advanced section, where you can set the alarm volume, the snooze duration and much more. Add to this, the developer has added a detailed Help & Feedback section, something that I would like to see from more apps here.
This clock works in either portrait (vertical) or landscape (horizontal) modes... just move your device and it changes to follow how you want to see the display. It also has a nightstand mode, where you can turn your Android device into a desktop or bedside clock while it's charging to prevent battery drain. It should be noted that this same developer offers a freebie version, Alarm Clock Free, which is the first one that I got here. It's worth trying if you're unsure, but subjectively I found the multitude of advertisements to be distracting in this version.
It's frustrating to buy or get a freebie on an app here, only to find that it hangs up, has problems or is poorly documented. This one is the type that sets a standard for the right way to make an app that takes full advantage of what the device offers. I've also used Weather Live in the Kindle Fire edition from the same developer, and this one uses a familiar AccuWeather-style interface, which is customizable to your location and offers a number of different ways to display the weather and more.
Update: Have also installed this app on my Samsung Galaxy S III phone shortly after I got it in early 2013, as it had proven to be so good with my Kindle Fire tablets. Buy it once if you have multiple devices, and it becomes a real bargain.
There are plenty of other time display and alarm clock apps for the Kindle Fire, Kindle Fire HD or Android devices here on Amazon, and you should check the reviews first before you grab any of them. Alarm Clock stands alone in terms of having such a good looking and highly functional interface, and it works quite well. Highly recommended to all who are looking for a good time keeping app, and it looks good as well.
