Bonafide Popcorn Snob Has Been Converted
So far as I'm concerned, popcorn is a food group. I'm so obsessed with it, I grow my own from organic seed stock I got from a hippie who spent 20 years perfecting the variety to grow perfectly in my micro-climate. So yeah... I'm into popcorn.
I've made my own on the stove for years with the old saucepan and oil method. It's extremely dangerous; more than once I've nearly lit my kitchen on fire. It's fun to explain the scorch marks to my husband in a way that sounds like I should be trusted alone in a kitchen. So to save my marriage and my house, I gave this a try.
I was super skeptical that this do-dad would work for me. But it's actually - dare I say it - better than doing it on the stove. The popcorn comes out tender, though I haven't quite gotten my timing down right and I end up with about 15% old maids. My microwave is also possessed by the spirit of a disgruntled old man who stubbornly refuses to do anything in a timely manner, never moves over so you can pass him on the interstate, and has named his last 3 dogs Bob, Bob Jr., and Bob III, so that's probably not this silicone gizmos fault.
Pros:
- Tender popcorn
- Easy to clean
- Won't have to waste money on a divorce lawyer
- Pretty teal color
- I'm no longer on a first name basis with the local firemen
Cons:
- Some old maids, could be my microwave's fault.
- I'm no longer on a first name basis with the local firemen
