Sturdy bookcases that look great for a reasonable price
I was looking for nicer shelving for my library; however, everything I found was thousands of dollars and not adaptable enough for my needs. The Sauder bookcases here provided the nicest compromise between my budget, desired flexibility and a nice look.
I bought 7 of this model and 1 two-shelf model. I assembled them all myself, and had minimal issues with the directions. The only real issue was that I did not catch the need to have the pre-drilled molding holes toward the front on the three horizontal pieces. Thus, I had to disassemble and turn one of the boards around. Assembly was straightforward, but, after completing assembly, I do not miss having to insert screws blindly into the backs of the molding.
All 8 shelves were bought here on Amazon, and the short bookcase and one tall bookcase had damaged boards. Sauder sent replacement boards quickly while I built the remaining bookcases. The process was simple and free.
My house is nearly 100 years old, so I cannot tell objectively if the floor or my sloppy bookcase assembly is the cause of any minor deviations in lining the bookcases up. After reading some of the reviews here, I thought this might be a huge problem (getting each to be straight so they will line up); however, I am pleased with the look and had no issues with alignment.
Good sturdy bookshelves at a reasonable cost.
4 stars because I cannot give 5 stars to anything that uses particle board.
